        Place history

        The Amanauz gorge is a tectonic cleft with walls up to 25 meters high. The Amanauz river runs along the bottom and comes from the Main Caucasus range.

        Description: the gorge is known for the Devil's Mill waterfall and the Sofrudzhinsky waterfalls. The first is a narrow canyon drop of up to 25 meters. The Sofrudzhinsky system has two cascades with drops up to 30 and 80 meters.

        Highlights: tight rock walls, shaded passages and snow patches even in summer.

        Route: the trail starts at the checkpoint south of Dombay. The round trip is about 5 km, time 2 to 3 hours, elevation gain about 400 meters. A border pass is required.

        Reviews: visitors praise the scenery and the canyon atmosphere, but note ladders and narrow sections.
